This oil painting,' Ailsa Craig' captures the essence of the rugged west coast in Ayrshire, Scotland with the small islands just beyond the coast.

 Frame size 51.5 cm. x 41.5 cm.

Image size 40 cm. x 30 cm.

The artist JHWinter painted it to accompany five others in a body of work which was hosted in Rozelle House in a small gallery of local artists artworks. They were on show to the public, therefore framed under glass which can be removed.

The island of Ailsa Craig is also called Paddy's Milestone, as it is the first part of Scotland that can be seen when travelling by ferry from Ireland. The series 'Outlander', features Ailsa Craig. It is the small island Jamie swims to seeking treasure.

The painting in oil, shows in the sky, the drama of very specific Scottish colours, which favour the heathers in the hills. The coastline is rugged with white foam. This view can be seen by golfers at Turnberry Golf Course.

Does it beckon you to visit the area yourself, or simply sit observing it in the peace of your home?

Loose marks can be seen creating movement in the ripples of the water and the passing of the clouds, which have been painted with a difference in the directional strokes. This oil painting is a fine example of the artists' skill in capturing the atmosphere of the west coast of Scotland. Alone you can take the scene in with a sense of peace and quiet and wish you were there!
