Planning an Open Studio Event

The Paintings

The whole process is so involved. Firstly you know the beginnings of the art that will be on show, as you have read various blog posts celebrating Julie's experience of painting the beautiful North Yorkshire Landscape.

Displaying the paintings

It will be on show with other paintings in her home. Julie's dilemma is displaying the work in an inviting way. She is attempting to create a spacious feeling to her home gallery rather than a cluttered marketplace feeling.

Social Media Fun

To inject a little fun into the social media posts Julie chose this creative shot, where she is dressing up as one of the French impressionists!

Flyers given out locally

Each day Julie printed about a hundred A4 sheets, which were folded into three and loaded into a waterproof satchel. Then she and her husband with their dog, Annie delivered the flyers. Rather than relying on others to deliver important flyers Julie believes it is part of her job. She often meets people in the street who engage with her in person, making it a very worthwhile activity.

Keeping the Plates Spinning

Of course everything has a balance. Family matters, visiting folks, enjoying a ballet performance, Aqua fit, creating two commissions and getting one of them framed, helping her hubby build a summer house, then hosting a birthday celebration, all have to fit into the dance between it being all or nothing!

House Keeping

The final touches, dusting, cleaning and buying refreshments all become essential as time evaporates towards the finish line, when people will flood in and make all the effort worthwhile.
